Custom framing

The frame is part
of the story.

Thoughtful design. Proper materials. Care in every detail.

Design, technique & execution

Custom picture framing is equal parts technique, design, and execution. Just as any other industry, techniques and materials used to complete the frame change as new technologies and methods are developed. As active members of PPFA, we attend various educational workshops throughout the year, keeping abreast of changes in technology, practices and materials. Adopting and using new mounting techniques, preservation methods, and equipment keep Applewood Gallery at the forefront of modern framing practices. A well-designed frame is a fusion of the artwork, moulding, mount, and matting to create a unique design that will allow you to display and protect your heirlooms. The best frame treatment will complement, not overwhelm the artwork on display.

Equally important to design is execution. We make it a point to choose the appropriate and proper matting, glazing and mounting techniques that will allow your art to be displayed and enjoyed while also preserving and protecting it for generations to come.

When designing your frame, we may choose from over 2000 mouldings, 10 types of glazing, 8 kinds of mat and dozens of different mounting options to properly frame and display your artwork. When creating shadowbox frames, often times the mounts are custom made for the object being framed. Window glass, masking tape and hot glue don't have "a place at the table" in preservation picture framing.

It is important to realize that quality custom framing will outlast the carpet and furnishings in your home, as well as the cars, clothing and appliances you'll ever purchase. It can pass from generation to generation and still look as good as the day it was created.
