Philanthropy

Small acts.
Lasting ripples.

A family story, a creative community, and a cause close to our hearts.

From our community archive

Cystic fibrosis became part of our family’s story when our niece was diagnosed just a week after she was born. As our family learned more, we wanted to find a way to help. We began fundraising for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

We decided the best way to share our talents was to frame artwork by local children with CF. Each child painted two pictures: one to keep and one to auction. A Breath Of Fresh Art was created, raising nearly $75,000 over four years.

Our support has included framing artwork for local Charlotte chapter events. At the 2019 Master Chefs event, one painting we framed raised $36,000 toward a cure. My husband has shared his photography skills and introduced us to Xtreme Hike: 30.1 miles on the Appalachian Trail in one day. Um…thanks, honey?

Challenged that I would not be able to complete an Xtreme Hike, I kept going. In the original account of this story, I was working toward my fourth. Our son wanted to be involved too. His cookie and lemonade stands raised more than $6,000, and he was recognized by our chapter in 2018.

Through this experience, we have met amazing people: people with CF, their families, supporters and fundraisers. The people we have met at the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation are passionate about finding a cure, and we are proud to walk alongside them.

On the rare occasions that Applewood Gallery is closed, it is likely we are participating in or volunteering for an event.

This story and the milestones below preserve Applewood’s published account, including events from 2018 and 2019. Fundraising totals describe those historical achievements.
